Sentence
- A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
- It starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop (.), question mark (?) or exclamation mark (!).
- Example:
- Safety is everyone’s responsibility. → 1 sentence
Line
- A line is simply the words written across one row on the page or screen (like in a notebook or Word file).
- A sentence can be written in one line or may continue into two or more lines depending on page size and spacing.
- Example:
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Always wear your PPE at work.
- Here, there are 2 lines but 2 sentences also.
- If the page was narrow, one sentence could spread over 2 lines.
👉 So,
- Sentence = grammar meaning (complete thought)
- Line = physical writing on paper/screen
